ENVIRONMENT

La Torreta del Llac is surrounded by other stately homes characterized by their own style and with shapes, colors and architectural details. All these are, in fact, a testament to the splendor of Puigcerdà from when the intellectual and industrial bourgeoisie of Barcelona chose this enclave to spend the summer and enjoy its landscape and natural beauty. This transformation gave the town the stately and tourist character that is still preserved today and is one of its attractions.

LA CERDANYA

The Cerdanya region is an idyllic corner in Catalonia 1 hour and a half from Barcelona. The beauty of its wide valley that has more than 3000 hours of sunshine a year, the high mountain landscapes and its playful and gastronomic offer make La Cerdanya a paradise for lovers of nature and tranquility.

History, situation and traditions

The territory, which historically belonged to Catalonia, was divided in two in 1659 as a result of the Treaty of the Pyrenees. The region of Alta Cerdanya, which administratively belongs to France, and Baixa Cerdanya, a territory administered by Catalonia and which at the same time is divided between Girona and Lleida, both belonging to Catalonia.

Its location makes it a natural border crossing between Catalonia, France and the Principality of Andorra. And its location between the Pyrenees and the Sierras del Cadí and del Moixeró gives it a climate between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

The region is also notable for its interesting artistic exhibitions, mainly religious and Romanesque. There are more than 50 hermitages, churches and chapels. And several museums to highlight: Llívia Municipal Museum , Martinet Bunkers Park and Espai Ceretània Museum in Bolvir.

The mountain cuisine, typical of the Pyrenees, is another of the attractions of the valley, in which local products are used to make traditional recipes such as “el trinxat de la Cerdanya”.
