In the 19th century, local industrialists who prospered in Barcelona returned to Puigcerdà and built elegant residences around the lake. Over time, it became a summer destination for Barcelona families seeking to improve their health and, later, also for the bourgeoisie for leisure purposes.
Around the lake there were more than ten villas, including La Torreta del Llac, which has been carefully restored.
The lake is a postcard: a space that invites you to relax and enjoy a unique environment at any time of the year.
In winter, ski resorts such as La Masella, Font-Romeu, Les Angles and La Molina are within easy reach. In addition, Pas de la Casa-Grandvalira is only 40 minutes away by car. You can take your skis out in the morning and come back to enjoy a hot shower and a home-cooked dinner in the comfort of your apartment.
In spring, the meadows bloom, the villages are full of life and it is the ideal time to start practicing sports such as cycling, hiking, golf…
In summer, the coolness of the mountain is a luxury. There are no sweltering heat waves here: you sleep under a blanket and breathe tranquility.
In autumn, the valley and forests are tinged with warm colors and offer a natural spectacle that leaves no one indifferent.

The lake of Puigcerdà is a unique environment where nature and tranquility mark the rhythm of each stay. It is home to a characteristic fauna and flora, which have evolved over the years.
The swans were apparently introduced in Puigcerdà in 1928. Although they have been breeding, the population has not always remained stable -either by natural causes or by violent death- and it has been necessary to acquire new specimens. In past years, there had been about twenty. As a curiosity, in the early 1980s, eight black swans could also be seen.
The first references to this waterfowl date back to 1781, when it was forbidden to shoot them. Currently, there are about eight mallards. In addition, the mandarin duck can be observed and very occasionally the wigeon duck because of its wild character.
Today we found the following fish in the lake:
Here are the local trees of the lake of Puigcerdá and Schierbeck Park. It has autochthonous vegetation, and vegetation originating from different continents and mostly typical of a mountain environment (Himalayas, Atlas, Andes, Rocky Mountains…).
